A Cultural day

A Cultural day

There are some museums you cannot pass because there are famous all over the world so we went to two of these museums.

First, we went to The MOMA (Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art) which is located in the south of Central Park, not very far from the Empire State Building. It has been founded in 1929 as an educational institution. It is the most famous museum of modern art in the world. On the last floor, there are temporary exhibitions and the shop. On the other floors, there are modern and contemporaly art. I have written a list of the most popular artistic works in the museum :

  • Vincent Van Gogh, The starry Night.
  • Paul Cezanne, The bather.
  • Pablo Picasso, Les demoiselles d'Avignon.
  • Henri Matisse, The dance.
  • Jackson Pollock, Number 31.
  • Salvador Dali, The persistance of Memory.
  • Piet Mondrian, Broadway Boogie-Woogie.
  • Barnett Newman, Man, Heroic and Sublime.
  • Kasimir Malevitch, White on White.
  • Roy Lichtenstein, Drowning Girl.

Then, we visited The Metropolitan (MET), one of the biggest museum in the world which is located in the Upper East Side. The permanent exhibition are works of art from classical antiquity  and Ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European  masters, and an extensive collection of American  and modern  art. The MET also presented extensive holdings of African AsianOceanic Byzantine , and Islamic art. It is also home to encyclopedic collections of musical instruments , costumes and accessories, antique weapons and armor  from all the world. It was so interesting.

I recommend you a one-hour visit with a speaker who will show you a few items of each party. This will show you different parts of the museum, so you can then review some things that interested you. But you cannot see everything such it is big so you have to choose things you definitely want to see.

After that, we went to Central Park and did a bike ride. It was so cool.  there are big roads just for bikes so it isn't dangerous. You can rent bikes in diferents point of the park. You have one shop at the south west side at Columbus Circle. It is not very expensive and I think it is a worth going.

To conclude, Central Park is very pleasant and if you want to practise sport, I recommend you to run in the morning around the famous Jacqueline Kennedy Reservoir (2,64 km) like in the film "Marathon Man when the main character Dustin Hoffman runs around the reservoir 16 times to train for the marathon (16x2.64=42.195). You can see a beautiful cityscape and it's calm and nice.
